The Great Flood of 1993 is the most interesting natural disaster because of the amount of damage, the amount of casualties, and the amount of rainfall.

2. More than 50,000 homes were damaged or destroyed.
B. Businesses
1. City officials could not predict when Des Moines would return to normal.
2. 15 million acres (6 million hectares) of farmland.
C. Cost
1. $15 billion to $20 billion dollars worth of damage to homes, farms and businesses.

1. Apparently nobody went missing
B. Injured
1. During July 16 - September 3, 524 flood conditions were reported through this system. Of these 250 (47.7%) were injuries.
2. 233 (44.5%) were illnesses.
C. Deaths
1. The flood and events related to it also killed about 50 people.
2. 52 flood related deaths.
